I’am a huge fan of racing games and the only thing I really want was to experience the game without using the console’s standard controller. I already have Logitech’s G27 racing wheel for quite some time now but without a “racing seat”, that magnificent piece of hardware is useless. Playseat currently is the “de facto standard” when it comes to racing seats and I’ve been eyeing on Playseat’s Evolution racing cockpit since early last year. The main problem here is my living room is not that big enough to fit something that size and it seems the only way to experience the thrill of racing games inside a racing cockpit is to get a bigger house instead (which is obviously a very unrealistic solution :P).
“Playseat currently is the “de facto standard” when it comes to racing seats…”
Then one day, I just randomly visited our local gaming store to check for any new games when i spotted this foldable racing cockpit. The best part of it was the foldable racing cockpit was also manufactured by Playseat themselves. I was so hyped when I saw it and asked the store manager if it’s available for purchase – and yes it is! Also, for some reason, I was totally unaware that the 6th installment of Gran Turismo is out so it’s like that day was really planned for me which is just freaking great. I asked how much it is combined with the Gran Turismo game, paid for it, and headed home with excitement. The thrill I feel is comparable to what I get whenever I discover a new casino games that has a high win rate and rewards. The games I’m loving recently are from casino rocket, you should definitely check them out. One of the reasons these games are so popular online is because of the attractive bonuses and promotions that are often offered. The most popular Bitcoin casinos will often give new players free spins, no deposit bonuses, reload bonuses, and more.

“You can adjust just about everything here including the inclination of the seat, the distance of the pedals, and the position and level of the racing wheel.”
The cockpit is called the “Playseat Challenge” and the product’s main target are gamers with small entertainment rooms like me. The Playseat Challenge is so easy to setup. The manual is pretty straightforward with very clear illustrations on how to assemble and prepare the cockpit. It is made with durable materials and is pretty stable and solid once you hop into it. The cockpit is also fully customizable like a regular racing seat. You can adjust just about everything here including the inclination of the seat, the distance of the pedals (just in case you have a long legs), and the position and level of the racing wheel. This Playseat Challenge is super comfortable once you tweaked it to your personla preference.
“The problem with Playseat’s Challenge is it doesn’t include any mounts for the shifter stick…”
Of course, for Playseat, everything is business and I’ll tell you the most disappointing aspect of this product. The G27 racing wheel by Logitech is one of the best racing wheels around. It comes with all the necessary hardware to simulate real driving while playing a racing game. The problem with Playseat’s Challenge is it doesn’t include any mounts for the shifter stick (or anything you want to call it). I don’t play using automatic transmission and I always play on manual with clutch. This is a huge game changer for a lot of racing enthusiasts. The truth is, Playseat Challenge actually has a shifter mount, the problem is you have to pay for it as a separate product. It’s not a good move by Playseat in my opinion.

“So how come in your pictures, the shifter is attached?” – Well, I did a couple of DIY (do it yourself) and improvisations here which I’ll detail maybe on a separate post. But to put it simply, I basically visited an aluminum and glass shop near our place, asked for a piece of solid almost square shaped aluminum, painted it black, and attached it on the Playseat Challenge. This aluminum plate serves as a “mount” for the shifter stick. It’s pretty solid and I can basically shift comfortably. Only disadvantage of this solution was it’s not adjustable and the setup is mostly catered to my own personal preferences.
“So if you’re problem is space and you want to experience racing games inside a racing cockpit – then the Playseat Challenge is your answer.”
Still, this is a very awesome product. A very great idea indeed by Playseat. So if you’re problem is space and you want to experience racing games inside a racing cockpit – then the Playseat Challenge is your answer. You can buy it for roughly $250 on Amazon. Obviously, you’ll have to buy Logitech’s G27 separately ;) Enjoy the rest of the pics!

Hi!
Great article! I’m currently building my racing rig as well, would you mind sharing the local gaming store you mentioned in your post where you bought the Playseat Challenge?
Thanks and regards,
Paulo
Hi Paulo! Sure thing! Just wondering if you also live in the Philippines since that local gaming store I mentioned is located here :)
I’m from PH too, trying to get my hands on a Playseat Challenge here in the Philippines, stumbled on this, mind sharing which local store you got it from?
Hi Nico,
Thanks for the great article. I also have a G27 and am very interested in the Playseat Challenge. Playseat does have a shifter support but it forces you to mount the shifter up high next to the wheel. It’s also $47.00 cdn for what’s basically a piece of metal “L” bar which seems like a huge ripoff! I like your setup much better and would love some additional pics or details on how you fabricated and attached your mount. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Race on!
Cheers,
Greg
Hi Greg! Thanks a lot and sure thing. I’ll post some additional pics for your reference. But basically, there’s a thin metal plate underneath and the shifter is screwed on top of it :)
Hi otakumouse, the position of your gearstick looks perfect. Better than the official playseat position where its up near the wheel. Please can you give detailed instructions how you did it, so I can copy it on my own playseat challenge? I think others will agree, if you did provide instructions that we can follow you would make a lot of people including myself very grateful!
Hmm it looks like my comment was deleted somehow? Hi Nico, I was hoping you could post detailed instructions exactly how you mounted your gearstick like we can see in the pictures. The position is excellent and I would really appreciate it if you could give us a guide on how you did it. I would even pay to see how you did it! Thanks.
Hi!, just about to purchase the Playseat Challenge for my G27, I noticed others asking about your gearshift mount, did you ever get round to posting pictures ?
Thanks
Hi, great setup! I’d also love to see some detailed pictures of how you mounted the shifter. Cheers!
Bro!! could u please provide us on how did u get urself to put the shift gear in that position. Many are looking forward for the pics !!! thanks in advance
Hi Guys! Sorry for not replying on your questions. I didn’t notice the comments notification for this post was not working :( Anyways – I’ll try to send some pics once I’m back but to give you guys an idea, here’s how it works: http://monosnap.com/image/Kjz0cwN6arLZHSiBkjUYh4vKThgiJm#/
There’s another alternative which is much more easier. The stuff you need can be purchased at your local hardware store. It’s something like this: https://www.otakumouse.com/otaku/quick-snap-entertainment-area/31488/ Will also post how I did it :)
